Other than being a flying license, a Passport is also used for identity verification. If you do not have an aadhaar card or voter ID card you can show your Passport. Passport Registration

Before making an appointment at the Passport Seva Kendra, the applicants have to visit the online site. The individuals have to take the required documents and submit the fees to begin the Passport registration Process. This is an online process in which the individuals have to initially register themselves to the official portal to confirm their appointment. The online registration process saves a lot of time. The best part is you can also pay the fees so that you don’t have to pay during the appointment.

Passport Process

Approximately 65 million Indians have a passport with which they regularly travel to different locations across the country and internationally! A Central Passport Organisation (CPO) is responsible for providing Passport services to Indian citizens. Every city has a passport office that individuals must visit to complete their registration process. There is a long process for getting your Passport! But the two major processes are discussed below.

Document Verification

The foremost process in which the applicants have to collect the required documents and submit them to the Passport office. After applying for the Passport and getting an appointment, the applicants have to visit the Passport Seva Kendra. They have to wait for their turn until they are called by the authorities. Next, they have to go to the counter where the consult person asks for certain details. These include name, date of birth, etc. The same person asks for the documents. We have discussed a list of documents in the upcoming sections. After this, the applicants are asked to wait for some time. Then, they are called by the consult person who checks the documents. They are again asked for some details such as email address, contact number, address etc for verifying the details. After this process, the documents proceed to the senior person who checks the online registered details with the original documents of the applicant. As soon as this process is completed, the nearest police station is allotted to the applicant for further process.

Important: Kindly note that passport creation and updation both are sluggish processes that consume a lot of time. Therefore, an applicant has to be patient till the processes get completed.

Police Verification

Another step for the offline Passport process is the ‘Police Verification’. In this process, the applicants who have registered for the Passport are assigned the closest police station. An on-duty Police officer is given this task to check and confirm the details that an applicant has entered during the passport appointment. The applicants can regularly check their passport status to know when the officer will arrive at their residence. The role of a Police officer is to confirm the details from the neighbourhood and from the family members about the individual who has applied for the passport. After checking all the details, the Police officer sends the confirmation report to the passport office.

Later, the passport is issued by the Passport Seva Kendra authorities to the applicant. A person usually receives the passport within 15 to 30 days or more at their residence or any other shared address.

You can pay the fees online prior to visiting a passport office. This will save much of your time. This option is most favourable for those people who are generally busy with their regular chores.

Rs. 1500 is the required fee for those individuals who want to make a fresh passport. This figure is the same for those who want to re-issue their passport.

  • The booklet will comprise 36 pages

Additional Charges

  • The individuals have to pay for the passport cover
  • Charges for receiving SMS and other notifications on email or the mobile number
This is entirely optional. An individual can pay this amount only if it is required, otherwise, you can ask the passport authorities to avoid it.
